Authority.
This is a continuation oF the topic accountability from the previous blog, (if you haven't read that please do).At some point or sometime in our life we will be under one authority or the other.Authority is the power or the right to command. We usually have officials who have been empowered by the virtue of their job, postion, relationship to lead and be in a position of authority. And their opinions and instructions to us is crucial and important to our growth. They are bosses at work, the police force, the authorities of government ,eg parastatals. Laws amd policies that we are governed by.ETC.
The nearer you get to authority, the more of their weaknesses will you see, but it is paramount that you remain humble and teachable under authority, because it is a learning curve in life. It teaches you the lessons of, taking instructions, being accountable to someone else, target oriented, disciplined, time consious, targets oriented, flexibility, adaptability, level headed, discipleship and due process. You may have a boss you don't like, or think you are smarter than, but hey! they are still in the position of authority over you.And it isn't the same as keeping quiet when you are being antagonised, or discriminated against or even abused. But when you act arrogant and feel no one can tell you what to do, nor take corrections, nor choose your battles, then you are opposing authority and stifling your growth. It is the same with children and their parents, some adolecents purposely cross the boundaries of their parents, teachers and other form of authority.Your rights to speak your mind, should never be taken away, but you will know when you are challengig authority, eg; by evading taxes, by resisting arrests, by not obeying court injunctions, by being confrontational and aggresive in meetings, by forming your own opinions and acting on them solely without any regards for the system, law and regulation, the bigger society etc. Or when you are hell bent in proving that you are so right, better, than that authority,it isnt the same as being competitive,So be humble, take the lesson, pay the price of disclipleship especially if you plan to be a leader yourself, one day. Food for thought.
