It finally arrived.
The talked about Ikorodu Youth Empowerment seminar and entreprenurial fair took place today as publicised.It was a great event: content wise and impactfulness according to the feed back we received despite the low turn out.It was tagged "Maximise your youthfullness, a brand new year a brand new you".It was an event to inspire and challenge us all to get out of our comfort zone this year and beyond.The event was laced with great speakers like the renowned industrialists,Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi.A great educationist,Mrs Adunola Benson,my humble self and a greatly accomplished Engineer,community leader and mentor Amid Adekunle Oduborisha.I delivered a speech titled "THE VISION BY THE VISIONARY" as it was organised by Real Life consult.
Real life Consult is all about connecting lives, communities and businesses to its achievable purpose. Instilling,hope and faith in those who have lost their faith in life, inspiring fellow men to discover the true potential within him and to share that goodness with the world.
We design, consult, collaborate and execute for leaders, government, private and public sector organisations, communities, companies and businesses, tailor made awareness campaigns, capacity building, trainings, public speaking and development projects.Today’s event is one of the awareness/capacity building campaigns that Real Life Consult specifically designed for the youths
My vision for the youth: The purpose of today’s event is to encourage you the youths of today/Ikorodu that you are the future leaders of tomorrow. Future leaders of tomorrow, but you can start living with that awareness today. To let someone here today go home with the knowledge and belief that they can do anything that they set their mind on doing. When I was growing up I wanted to do/ be many things: I wanted to be an actress, writer, a broadcaster ,TV presenter, air hostess, I had so many ideas in my head. I didn’t know how to go about it, especially when you’ve been conditioned to go get a degree and get a job. No one prepared me for life, that you needed more than an education to survive, that you needed interpersonal skills, self belief, mental toughness tools in addition, to survive in this big wide world. I had to take it upon myself to personally develop and widen my horizons but knowing earlier would have made life easier for me. But again experience is a teacher and I am happy where my life has taken me to today.
My vision for the youths is that you will become bold and start believing in yourself, that you will start dreaming dreams and seeing yourself as that next writer, that next scientist, that next entrepreneur, that great leader. That, that life of possibilities you want is achievable. Believe it and develop the mental picture to attain it. Because it is already in a seed form inside of you. Living your dream, changing your LIFE is hard work, but even a hard nut can be cracked open. You can. I desire for the youths to learn the truth about fear, about failing and failing. You see failure is a sign, a symptom, an indication of something needing attention, it is fixable, it is not terminal unless you accept it to be so. Failing and falling simply means you need to re-strategise. Do not see it, do not accept it, as any other thing than that.Fear on the other hand is an acronym, it stands for, False Evidence Appearing Real. It is not real. It is only out to stop us from achieving, so you must always ask yourself when you are confronted with fear, is this thing really that bad? You must develop your senses of boldness and always go on to do anything you have to do even if you are afraid. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Fear is a huge procrastinator. It is a form of delay tactics. But you don’t have time to waste, you are on a mission.
BORN GREAT
Just in case no one has told you that you are great. You are. You were born with integrity, vision, purpose, success, wealth, talent, discipline, focus and ability until you choose to be otherwise.
Even the cursed person is great, If you do not leave with anything (though I doubt that,) from here today ,but leave with the unshakeable belief that will remain with you for the rest of your lives that you are born great ,then today for me, will count as successful.
To live a purposeful life is possible
To live a visionary life, you must start by seeing yourself as more than a statistic, you must see yourself as having all the right to be on the face of the earth and here to contribute to the development of the world. You must have a mind picture of it.You must believe you were not just born but that you were born with a purpose and you must always call yourself successful. That is why you cannot just live purposelessly. And it is never too early to be living
You must also then plan for your PURPOSEFUL life to happen, because I must tell you it won’t just fall into your laps. And in life we are always paying a price, it will be wise if it is the price of greatness that you are channelling all your efforts towards.
Greatness is willing to bow over to anyone who pays its price, regardless of age, sex, time and place.
Becoming great is encompassing. It is taking responsibility for your life, taking action, time management, your association, your commitment, your interpersonal skills I:E, flexibility, knowledge,relationships,self development.
(Feeling the fear and doing it anyway), integrity, purpose.
To become great you must acknowledge the God that created you,as you did not create yourself.You must take the business of worshipping God seriously,whatever faith you are.You must fear him,in the way you relate to your fellow human being,
You must be grateful and show him gratitude always no matter the circumstances.You must not moan,complain or blame your creator and you must continually seek him. Endeavour to follow the commandments of your faith and develop a personal relationship with your creator.B. PURPOSE:
You must plan for your life,(repeat after me) and how do you do that?
You must ask yourself, what do I want to achieve with my life? Am I willing to pay the price for my greatness?
What is my purpose on the face of the earth? What do I love doing? What do you have passion for,what will you do for free,if money wasn’t a problem? The answers to these questions,are indicators of where/what your purpose is.
C. KNOWLEDGE/WISDOM
You must seek knowledge,education,required in the field of your purpose. In some cases it is going to get a qualification in that field and that involves duly putting in the required hours in studying, reading and doing your assignments. It is being a scholar, student, an apprentice, trainee, looking for a mentor and being a mentee. You must be willing to be under the tutelage of the expert, again remember pay the price, do not keep finding short corners.
OBAMA, MANDELA, ASA, DBANJ, all have one thing in common they took action on their dreams, drive and passion till they became the celebrated that they are today, this event was a thought but if not for action, we would not be sitting here today. You must stop procrastinating and always take the necessary action to achieve that that you have set your mind on.
I stand, looking into your radiant faces today and I can see greatness written all over you, I wish you well and I hope you will choose to live purposely.
