THE NATIONAL BLACK BOYS CAN ASSOCIATION.
If you live in the UK,you will be accustomed with the never ending bad press about our young black boys. The media on a daily basis revolve round their ills, wrongs and failings. They are called all sorts of names, ranging from deliquents to underachievers and rarely giving coverage for the good they are also attaining.
Yes there is a major problem with our youngsters, there is the rising concern/s of black on black gun and knife fataliites, many a black mother and black families have in the last year gone on several visits to the graveyard, not a sign of remembrance or paying homage to their old and long gone ones, but to bury one, two,on and on...after the other, black boys of ages 14-21,in the prime of their youths.
That is why associations like the National Black Boys Can,NBBCA,should be applauded and supported for the very tasking but committed work they do.Through an early intervention,NBBCA seeks to maximise the academic and personal potential of black boys in their journey into adulthood, citizenship and employment.
I attened their conference on the 24/01/2009 at the Emmanuel Conference Centre,Westminster London, where the theme of the conference was "Black Boys can make it in Education -Yes they can". The turn out was great, several coaches lined up dropping off boys, girls, parents, families, both old and young on this winter morning,it showed that future of the black community and our boys was a pressing issue on our hearts.
They were seminars on various topics such as:
Supporting your son through the Eduction Maze
Suppoting Boys of mixed heritage,
Fathering black boys to succeed
Understanding Boys with challenging behaviour
They had various well meaning, self achieving black achievers as Conference chairs,co-chairs and speakers at the event.Ranging from black MPS,to Ministers,Educationists,Lords and achieving young boys all members of the National youth council. Here is the profile of some of the young boys, worthy peer leaders and all members of the National Youth Council

WHAT THE BLACK BOYS CAN YOUTH COUNCIL STANDS FOR AND BELEIVE IN.
1.They believe that one way to raise academic achievements, social inspirations and ambitions is to develop a far reaching national programme of BLACK BOYS PEERING MENTORING.
2.They also believe that there is a need for a black boy gateway or access where they can learn abot events or provisions relevant to young men.
3.They also believe that the media needs to make a determined effort to promote positive images of young black men to help redress the imbalance of negative images that is so common place.
4.The Black Boys Can National Youth council believe it is important that history teaching in schools reflects a greater diversity so that young Black men are able to engage with and feel empowered by this subject.
