Tax Justice and Governance Advocacy Platform kicks off in Lagos State.



The Civil Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC) on the 8th June, 2015 inaugurated the Lagos State Chapter of the Tax Justice and Governance Platform at the Ekiti Syndicate room of the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
According to Mr Chinedu Bassey and Mr Banwo, both of Cislac, the Tax Justice /Governance Advocacy Platform is a nationwide program on fair progressive taxation by enabling CSOs and non-state actors to research, advocate and sensitize stakeholders widely on fair taxation and an enabling service delivery environment.
 It has the objective of ensuring an organized, well informed tax payers constituency empowered to promote its right to fair treatment on tax matters, demand for accountability and services for tax paid and protected from unfair and harmful tax administration practices that creates hardship, dehumanizes small scale, informal tax payers, especially women, thereby exacerbating inequalities and poverty.



The Platform was inaugurated by Mr. Daniel Adebayo of FIRS, after the host organization and chairperson of the platform in Lagos state, Ms Abimbola Junaid, Executive Director of Arise Nigerian Woman Foundation introduced all its members and spoke about the civil society space as the third sector and an interface between the governments and the governed.
Dignitaries in attendance, who gave goodwill messages included: Mr. Shina Fagbenro Byron  SW regional co-coordinator, DFID UK. Mr. Wale Musa ,Assistant Director- Finance &Admin-Office of the Special Adviser Taxation &Revenue, Lagos State. Mrs Oso Afolake, Senior Manager , Chartered Institute of Taxation of  Nigeria. Mr Adejumo Fashola of Gem3, Mr Stanley Achon, Operations Lead Budgit, Mr. Toyin Oshinawa of LACSOP Tax and representing the Director of FIRS, Mr. Daniel Adebayo.
